The UN is about to choose their next Secretary-General!!!

The most important job in the world is up for grabs — and for the first time ever candidates are taking questions from us, the citizens of the world!

The UN is about to choose their next Secretary-General. This could be somebody independent and strong who could lead us in solving the multiple crises in our world, or somebody weak and beholden to only a handful of the richest, most powerful countries. Those few countries have always controlled who gets this job, and nominations have been kept secret, while the seven billion of us that it affects have had zero say...until now!!

After pressure from Avaaz and others, any country can now nominate candidates -- and in 2 days all declared candidates are joining the first ever public debate as part of this selection process! Even better -- the debate organisers have agreed to allow citizens around the world to help choose the questions. This is our chance make them say what they'd about the issues that matter to all of us.

The UN is our only global system to solve the world's biggest problems, from conflict to climate change. It has often been kept weak by powerful countries that jealously guard their power, but our world needs the UN too much now, as a matter of our survival, so it's time to choose the best leader to help humanity work together.

With hope,

Danny, Allison, Iain, Rewan, Ana Sofia, Ricken, and the rest of the Avaaz team
